🌴 Why San Diego is the perfect launchpad for ToolBerry
Why we are building field service software right in the middle of the people we make it for.

Why we are building field service software right in the middle of the people we make it for.
We are building ToolBerry in San Diego, and that is on purpose.
A lot of people think you need to be in San Francisco or Austin to build software. We do not agree. For what we are building, San Diego is the best place we could be. The city is full of the exact people we make ToolBerry for, and they are right next to us every single day.
The trades run this city
San Diego has a huge number of small service businesses. Landscapers, pool techs, pest control, handymen, pressure washing crews. They are everywhere. Many of them are small. One person, maybe up to five. No office, no admin team, no IT guy. ToolBerry fits them like a glove. But it does not stop there. Bigger companies across all kinds of trades run on ToolBerry too, with full crews and dispatchers and everything in between. A solo handyman and a company with twenty trucks can both run their day on it. When we walk around our own neighborhood we see our future users in almost every truck that drives by.
The weather keeps the work going all year
The weather here is a big part of the story. San Diego is sunny almost every day, and it is mild all year. There is no real winter that shuts everything down.
That changes everything for a service business. In a lot of the country the work slows way down in the cold months. Landscapers, pool techs, and pressure washing crews lose a whole season. Here they do not. The lawns keep growing, the pools stay open, and the jobs keep coming twelve months a year.
For us that means our users are working and earning all year, so the tools they use have to keep up all year too. It also means we always have crews out on real jobs we can learn from. There is no slow season where everyone disappears. The work never really stops, and neither does our feedback.
We are close to the people we build for
This is the part that matters most to us. We do not have to guess what our users need. We can meet them in person, grab a coffee, even ride along on a job and watch how they really work.
The feedback loop is fast. We can ship something on a Monday and have a local crew using it by Friday and telling us what is good and what is broken. We are also running local users events so we can sit down with people face to face. You learn more from one ride-along than from ten survey forms. You see the real problems, not the ones people remember to write down.
San Diego is a real test market
San Diego is also a great place to test a product like ours.
It is bilingual. A lot of crews here work in English and Spanish, so we built ToolBerry to work in both from day one. That was not an afterthought for us. It was there from the start because our own city pushed us to do it.
There are also many different trades packed into one city. That means we can test our industry templates with real businesses without flying anywhere. And the signal here is not perfect. There are canyons and dead spots all over, which forced us early to make the app work even when you have no connection. If it works for a crew standing in a canyon with no bars, it works anywhere.
From San Diego to everywhere
The plan is simple. Start here, earn trust, and then take the same playbook to other cities.
Happy local crews bring in their friends. One landscaper tells another. That is the start of our referral program, and it works best when it starts in a tight community like this one. Every city in the country has trades that need this. San Diego is just where we prove it first.
Come build it with us
So that is why we are here. Not because it is convenient for us, but because it puts us right in the middle of the people we are trying to help.
If you run a service business in San Diego, we would love for you to try ToolBerry and tell us what is missing. Come to our launch event and meet the team. We are building this for you, in your city, and we are just getting started.
