The honest comparison
Housecall Pro runs your office. ToolBerry runs your truck, free and with no signal.
No account · No credit card · Works offline
Housecall Pro is a strong all-in-one office platform for shops that want online booking, built-in card payments, and marketing under one roof, and are fine paying a monthly seat price for it. ToolBerry is a free, offline-first app for small trades that just need to run jobs from the truck, even with no signal. Housecall Pro genuinely leads on payments and consumer booking. If you want to start a job in seconds, work in a basement with no bars, and pay nothing, pick ToolBerry.

Housecall Pro has no free tier. You start a 14-day trial, then pick a paid plan from $59 a month billed annually, and each user past the included ones adds $75 to $100 a month (August 2026). ToolBerry is free. No card, no per-user fees, no upgrade wall. You keep using it after two weeks, and after two years.
On Housecall Pro you can look at cached job info without signal, but you cannot edit a job offline. With ToolBerry the phone itself is the database. You create jobs, edit them, add notes and photos in a dead basement or a rural road, and nothing is waiting on bars.
There is no account to create and no trial timer ticking. Because there is no account and no server copy of your data, your customer list stays on your phone. Check our App Store privacy label: it says "Data Not Collected" (July 2026).
Credit where it is due. Housecall Pro is genuinely strong where the office meets the customer. Integrated card payments are built right in. Their consumer online booking lets homeowners book you from your website or a link. Their mobile app is polished and well rated too. And their SMS and email marketing tools help you win repeat jobs and reviews. If payments, online booking, and marketing are the core of how you grow, Housecall Pro does them well and it is a fair choice.
The ToolBerry app is free. No card, no trial clock, no per-user fees, and it is the full app rather than a trial. It runs on your own device, and a small crew can share it through the owner's own Dropbox. ToolBerry Pro is the optional paid upgrade that puts a crew on one cloud workspace with real-time sync, and it is priced per company, so hiring never raises the bill.
Housecall Pro publishes its prices and has no free tier. Basic is $59/mo billed annually ($79 monthly) for one user. Essentials is $149/$189 and includes five users, with extras at $100/mo each. Max is $299/$329 and includes eight, with extras at $75/mo (housecallpro.com/pricing, read August 2026). Payment processing fees are separate.
Prices can change, so check their site for the current numbers.
Switching is the easy kind. Keep Housecall Pro running and use ToolBerry on your next few jobs, so there is zero risk. Add your customers and jobs as you go and you are set up in an afternoon, not a migration project. Your data lives on your phone and you can export it anytime, so you are never locked in.
No card, no signup, works offline from the first job.
