No account and no credit card. Works offline.

Quick verdict

Connecteam is an employee app: time clock with GPS, shift scheduling, team chat, forms and training, and its free plan covers up to 10 users. It does not make quotes or invoices and has no customer records. ToolBerry is a free job app for trades: customers and sites, jobs, quotes, invoices and timesheets, and it works with no signal. If your problem is clocking staff in and talking to them, pick Connecteam. If your problem is running jobs and getting paid, pick ToolBerry.

Why trades choose ToolBerry over Connecteam

  • Quotes, invoices and customers in one free app

Connecteam tracks hours, not customers. To bill a client you export hours to a spreadsheet and build the invoice somewhere else. In ToolBerry the quote turns into a job, the job turns into an invoice with photos and a signature, and every customer keeps a service history. All of it is in the free app.

  • Works in a basement or a dead zone

Connecteam's help center says the app cannot be used offline, not even to clock in or out. ToolBerry keeps a real database on the phone, so you create jobs, fill checklists, take photos and log time with no signal, and it syncs when you are back online.

  • No per-user fee to watch

Connecteam is free up to 10 users, then each hub is a paid plan. The ToolBerry app has no per-user fee: a small crew shares one workspace through the owner's own Dropbox. ToolBerry Pro adds real-time sync at one price per company, so hiring does not raise the bill.

Where Connecteam is strong

Credit where it is due. Connecteam is a very good employee app. Its time clock has GPS tracking and geofences, breaks and overtime, and turns punches into timesheets. Shift scheduling, one-to-one and group chat, forms with read and sign, and training courses are all in one place. The free plan for up to 10 users is generous, and the app has a 4.9 rating from about 62,000 ratings on the US App Store (checked November 2026). If managing hourly staff is your main job, Connecteam does it well, and some trades run it next to a job app.

Pricing, plainly

ToolBerry

The ToolBerry app is free. No card, no trial clock and no per-user fees, and it is the full app rather than a trial. It runs on your own device, and a small crew can share it through the owner's own Dropbox. ToolBerry Pro is the optional paid upgrade that puts a crew on one cloud workspace with real-time sync, priced per company rather than per seat.

Connecteam

Connecteam's Small Business plan is free for up to 10 users. Above that you pay per hub (Operations, Communications, and HR & Skills). For the first 30 users, each hub costs $29 or $35 a month on Basic, $49 or $59 on Advanced and $99 or $119 on Expert, with the lower price on yearly billing. Extra users on the Operations hub cost $0.80 to $5 each a month by tier. Enterprise is a custom price. There is a 14-day free trial with no card (connecteam.com/pricing, checked November 2026).

Prices can change, so check their site for the current numbers.
