ToolBerry vs Yardbook

Two free apps. Yardbook is built for lawn care. ToolBerry fits lawn care and every other trade, on iPhone, Android and computer.

No account and no credit card. Works offline.

Quick verdict

Yardbook is a real free option for landscapers. Its free Starter plan covers customers, scheduling, estimates, invoices, routing and online card payments, with no limit on employees, and it adds lawn-care tools such as lot measuring and chemical tracking. It is paid for by ads, its iPhone app is in beta, and it needs a connection on iPhone. ToolBerry is free with no ads, has native iPhone and Android apps that work fully offline, and fits any trade. If you want online card payments and lawn-specific tools on a free plan, Yardbook does that. If your crew uses iPhones, works in dead zones or does more than lawns, pick ToolBerry.

Why crews choose ToolBerry over Yardbook

  • A real iPhone app that works offline

Yardbook's iOS app is in beta, you get it by asking support, and it needs a connection at all times. ToolBerry is on the App Store and Google Play, and on both it keeps the whole database on the phone, so the crew works in backyards and basements with no signal.

  • Free with no ads

Yardbook pays for its free plan with ads, and removing them takes the Enterprise plan. The ToolBerry app has no ads and no ad SDKs, and on the free app your jobs and customers stay on your device and in your own Dropbox.

  • Built for more than lawns

Yardbook is made for lawn care and landscaping. ToolBerry sets itself up for your trade, with job types, checklists and roles for landscaping, cleaning, HVAC, plumbing, pest control and more, or a general setup for any other trade. If you add snow, gutters or handyman work, the same app fits.

Where Yardbook is strong

Credit where it is due. Yardbook gives a lot away. The free plan includes estimates, invoices, routing, expenses, reports and online card payments through Stripe, and it does not limit the number of employees. It is built deep for lawn care, with satellite lot measuring, price per cut, chemical tracking with applicator licenses and snow route templates. It has run since 2013, says more than 20,000 companies use it, and its Android app has a 4.6 rating from about 1,970 reviews on Google Play (checked November 2026). If you mow on Android and want online payments on a free plan, Yardbook is a strong pick.

Pricing, plainly

ToolBerry

The ToolBerry app is free. No card, no trial clock, no ads and no per-user fees, and it is the full app rather than a trial. It runs on your own device, and a small crew can share it through the owner's own Dropbox. ToolBerry Pro is the optional paid upgrade that puts a crew on one cloud workspace with real-time sync, priced per company rather than per seat.

Yardbook

Yardbook Starter is free and supported by ads, with no limit on employees. Business is $34.99 a month and adds bulk email and texts, GPS tracking, automatic backup, invoice reminders and no Yardbook fee on payments. Enterprise is $49.99 a month and adds QuickBooks sync, a branded customer portal and no ads (yardbook.com/pages/pricing, checked November 2026). Online payments go through Stripe at 2.9% plus 30 cents, and free accounts pay an extra 1% Yardbook fee (Yardbook support, checked November 2026).

Prices can change, so check their site for the current numbers.

Switching from Yardbook to ToolBerry

Switching is the easy kind. Download ToolBerry and run your next few visits in it while Yardbook keeps running. Bring your customers in from a spreadsheet with the free CSV import, or add them as you go, and set up recurring visits once. Your data lives on your device and you can export it anytime, so you are never locked in.
